General Practices

A general practice attorney is typically a legal professional who handles more than one area of law. Although an attorney may have a general practice firm it does not mean that they do not specialize in particular areas of law. Many cases in one area of law are positively or negatively impacted by other areas of law.

Consequently, a general practice attorney given the breadth of their knowledge and experience are sometimes able to better achieve their client’s objectives. For example, a criminal lawyer who also practices immigration law can be an effective advocate for a non-citizen criminal defendant who not only faces a criminal penalty but also deportation or as it is now termed removal, for their criminal conduct.
